A restaurant is more than a place to eat. It’s a part of our culture.

The same Angel that drives us to invite a bunch of friends over for dinner sometimes gets out of control…and a restaurateur is born.

Restaurants are not ‘get rich quick schemes’, although excellence can provide a just reward for those who can live up to the serious physical, emotional and mental demands.

We all know what we’re like when we’re doing something we love. There are no hours. There is no price. It’s just about doing it. When it all goes right, you’ll never know what went into your experience on that beautiful evening as you say goodnight to the people in you favourite restaurant.

These peaceful singularities are really other worlds. And as soon as you sit down, you are a traveler who has left something more forgettable behind.

Then, there came a day that rocked the world, that left us all scrambling to pick up the pieces. In 2020, there was a tidal wave that tore through the food service world with terrible results. It’s more than prose to say that many of the most beautiful things are also the most delicate.

It;s worth making a bit of extra effort now to help preserve the very joyful tradition of going out for dinner at a place where people have devoted their talents and experience to lavish you with good food, a beautiful environment and attendance to banishing your cares and concerns. A restaurant, if you consider it deeply for a moment, is sort of like a hug.

Restaurants, like all of us, have had to change their ways lately. For now, it’s mostly take-out and delivery. Well…Ok. But you can be sure it’s the SAME Angel as before driving this new way. And if we keep our restaurants alive and healthy during the darker days, just think what they’ll create for us when the sun comes back up!.

We have a link to the FBC (Food Bloggers of Canada) above. They are doing a very reasonable job of helping to keep you informed of restaurants all over Canada that are operating under various scenarios. If you have a recommendation for any other internet source, please send it to us at winery@harwood.co and we’ll look into listing it.

Cheers!
